Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), volunteer based animal welfare organization. Cross Creek was established in 2009 to ensure quality care and treatment of alpacas and other animals through intervention, education and outreach. We are not a sanctuary.
Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue was founded by Sharon Bond and Jacklyn Glover who have been rescuing horses for 6 years and alpacas for 2 years, along with breeding alpacas for the past 3 years. There are very few animal rescues dedicated to the saving of alpacas but the need exists. Too often gelded males, older females and otherwise unwanted alpacas are passed from farm to farm, or they are put down for little or no reason other than they are a burden to the current owner.
Cross Creek will provide education and information about the Alpaca population while working with Alpaca Owner and Breeder Association (AOBA) to create additional markets for their fiber and cost effective ways of processing it to ensure a market for our U.S. alpaca. Alpacas produce one of the world’s finest, most luxurious and valuable fibers that exist today; soft as cashmere, warmer, lighter and stronger than wool. Alpaca is easier and less expensive to process than sheep’s wool due to its lack of lanolin. It produces a higher yield of clean fiber after processing: 87-95% versus 43-76% for wool.
The mission of Cross Creek is to foster compassion and responsibility for alpacas and other animals through intervention, education, and outreach. We will continue to help the North American alpaca industry grow and improve by promoting the value of non-breeding alpacas for their fiber.
