DePaul University

Once a Blue Demon, Always a Blue Demon!

Our Story

DePaul is the nation’s largest Catholic university. Based in Chicago, IL, with two campuses in the Loop and in Lincoln Park, DePaul educates over 22,000 students and is backed by an alumni network over 191,000 strong. Inspired by the legacy of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, DePaul University is a community gathered together for the sake of our mission. These saints shared a belief in the God-given dignity of all people lived out in an ethos we call Vincentian personalism. Since 1898, the values of inclusivity, personalism, and professionalism have shaped DePaul’s distinctive culture and our service to students.

Founded in 1898, DePaul pursues the preservation, enrichment, and transmission of knowledge and culture across a broad scope of academic disciplines. It treasures its deep roots in the wisdom nourished in Catholic universities from medieval times. The principal distinguishing marks of the university are its Catholic, Vincentian, and urban character.
