Jack Helbig Memorial Foundation

Be Water Safe. Be Water Smart.

Our Story

We were founded in honor of our son, Jack, who fatally drowned in the lake in our backyard in 2010. He was 4.5 years old. After his death, we learned that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under age 5. JHMF strives to teach children and families how to be safer around water so that not one more child dies due to drowning. We carry out our mission by community awareness events, in-classroom water safety curriculums and children's books. We advocate for all young children to receive swim lessons and we are trying to raise money to offer swim scholarships to children that cannot afford lessons. Swimming is a life skill and is the only sport that can save a life!

We are a completely volunteer only organization. All funds raised go directly to book donations, swim scholarships, and community events.

Our mission is to promote and provide water safety and drowning prevention education to children and their families.
