San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity
We build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGV Habitat) began in 1990 under John “ACE” Cain’s visionary leadership as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGV Habitat), was founded in 1990 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. SGV Habitat transforms lives and communities by bringing people together to build, renovate, and repair affordable homes for families in need. SGV Habitat seeks to eliminate substandard housing while making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Under John “ACE" Cain's visionary leadership, local citizens united to fight the critical affordable housing shortage in the San Gabriel Valley. SGV Habitat partners with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds to create and maintain decent housing for low-income families in the community, providing safe, stable environments where they can live, work and grow. SGV Habitat's chartered service area covers over 400 square miles and includes 31 communities in northeastern Los Angeles County. In its 26-year history, SGV Habitat has built 62 new homes and completed 33 critical home repair projects, thus providing safe, decent, affordable shelter to over 427 men, women and children.
