***Campaign Update from Charlotte: Februrary 20th***

"Just a quick update to say how very grateful and humbled I am by the funds raised for us. I am truly awestruck by the love and care you have shown towards Sue and our family.

Today Sue will be discharged from the rehab facility. (I’ve rather enjoyed telling people that my wife is in rehab.) We will be moving into a hotel for at least two weeks and then hopefully into a new home that is more accessible for her. It feels like unforeseen expenses crop up every day, and your generosity means that I don’t lose sleep over them. (Still losing plenty over the rest of it. Ha!)

We have months of rehab and specialist appointments ahead, but I feel like coming home (or “hometel,” as I’m calling it) is a big step in the right direction!

I hope that every kindness that you’ve shown us - whether it be a donation, card, gift card, or positive thought for healing - comes back to you tenfold.

With sincerest gratitude,
Charlotte"

Dear Cherished Nanny Community and Supporters of Sue Downey,

As many of you are aware, Sue Downey is not just a member of our community but its very heart. Her remarkable contributions, including co-founding the Nanny Relief Fund, have deeply impacted us all. Her dedication is evident in her work with Nannypalooza, iNNTD, and her service on the INA board.

Sue recently faced a significant health challenge, having suffered a stroke. She is now in a rehabilitation facility, embarking on a journey of recovery. In the upcoming weeks, Sue and her wife Charlotte, who is also deeply involved in the nanny community, will be moving to a more accessible apartment to accommodate Sue's recovery needs. This transition, along with her ongoing medical care, involves considerable financial demands.

We've spoken with Charlotte, who, with love and understanding for Sue’s character, has given us permission to organize this fundraiser. We know Sue, always thinking of others, would hesitate to seek help herself. Given Sue's foundational role in our community and our industry, we feel a deep responsibility to rally around her now and are grateful to have permission to unite and have the opportunity to reflect back a little bit of the love, energy and dedication we've seen from Sue over the last couple of decades. Our mission has always been to "look for the helpers" as Mr. Rogers said, and one of the biggest helpers we know needs our help right now.

Here are the ways you can contribute to Sue and Charlotte right now:

Fundraise: Click the "Fundraise Now" button to begin. Set a fundraising goal and invite your network to contribute through your personal fundraising page.

Donate: Your generous contributions are invaluable. Click the "Donate" button to make a donation.

Spread the Word: Help us reach others by sharing our fundraiser page. Use social media, chat groups, or email to spread the word. This said, we have received a special request from Charlotte that we not tag Sue Downey's personal Facebook (or Nannypalooza) in the posts you make. The concern is that Sue may become overwhelmed with our efforts and Charlotte is trying her best to keep Sue's stress level down. We promised we would extend this ask to our beloved community.

This is an opportunity for us to show Sue and Charlotte the same support and love they have always shown us- and they have looked out for all of us in unique and wonderful ways. Let's come together to help them through this challenging time.

With deepest gratitude and affection,
The Nanny Relief Fund Team

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NANNY RELIEF FUND
Nanny Relief Fund's mission is to provide support to the thousands of people working in the United States as nannies in moments of crisis. As nannies, nanny agency owners and people who have spent collective decades growing and nurturing this industry, we were spurred into action at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when nannies across the country suddenly lost their jobs, their homes, and their stability.

Nannies come from all walks of life, but one key thing we all have in common is choosing a career dedicated to nurturing and educating the youngest generation of humans and supporting families in pursuing their dreams by providing much-needed support to their households.

HOW YOUR PARTICIPATION HELPS
In this crucial time, your generosity holds the power to make a tangible difference in the lives of Sue and Charlotte. The funds raised through this heartfelt campaign will serve as a vital lifeline in multiple ways.

First and foremost, the funds will directly contribute to the mounting medical expenses incurred from Sue's stroke and ongoing rehabilitation. Medical treatments, therapy sessions, and necessary medications often come with a hefty price tag, and your contributions will play a crucial role in ensuring Sue receives the best possible care without the burden of financial strain.

Additionally, a significant portion of the funds will be allocated towards their imminent move to a more accessible apartment. This move is not just a change of residence; it's a step towards creating a safer, more comfortable environment conducive to Sue's recovery. The costs associated with moving and setting up a new home, especially one that needs to meet specific accessibility requirements, can be substantial. Your donations will ease this transition, helping to cover expenses such as moving services, rent deposits, and necessary modifications to the apartment to accommodate Sue's mobility needs.

Furthermore, we anticipate ongoing expenses in the form of caregiving support and other unforeseen costs that often accompany life-altering events like this. The funds will provide a buffer, ensuring that Sue and Charlotte can focus on recovery and adaptation without the added stress of financial uncertainty.

In essence, every dollar you contribute is more than just monetary assistance; it's a gesture of love, support, and solidarity. It's a way for us to collectively shoulder some of the burdens that Sue and Charlotte are facing, allowing them to concentrate on what's most important right now: Sue's health and well-being.

Your contributions are not just donations; they are the embodiment of compassion and community spirit. Together, let's ensure that Sue and Charlotte navigate this challenging phase with the support and resources they so rightfully deserve.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is this Fundraising campaign?

This fundraising campaign is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity , and inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

How can I create my fundraising page?

Well, you wouldn't have to create a separate fundraising page. Once you register for this campaign, we'll give you the link to your fundraising page.

I am an international donor (non-US), what are my donation charges and tax-deductibility?

All donations are made in US dollars, so the donations may be levied an exchange rate fee via your bank. Donors will want to connect with their bank to determine exactly what that fee may be. Additionally, international donors will need to reach out to a tax professional to discuss if and how tax deductibility will apply to their donation.

Who can sponsor my fundraising efforts?

The short answer is - everyone. The fundraising research shows that the number one reason for people not donating is that they weren't asked to.

That said, there are things you can do to attract people to sponsor you. Adding a picture to your fundraising page, telling potential donors why this cause is so personal to you, sharing your fundraising page on social media, email, and chat groups.

Last, if your employer has a gift matching program, check with the human resources department to support your favorite cause as well.

Who can I contact if I need help?

You can contact us any time if you need help. We love hearing from our users so please don't hesitate to write to us about issues, suggestions, or to just say hi. You can also contact the non-profit administrator directly if you would like.
