My Appeal
I’m dedicating my #RacetoBetterEducation efforts to celebrating the volunteer teachers who have given so much of their time, money and expertise to CFC in the 13 years since our international teacher training efforts began.
Between now and November 2nd, I am racing to create an "Orange Volunteer Teacher Roll Call" that is as comprehensive as it can possibly be, and I would love your help! Put another way, I am hoping to create a "roll call" or donor record of every teacher who has volunteered her or his time to CFC. These are the teachers who have:
•developed our international teacher training program
•coordinated international teacher training teams
•planned and led training workshops, student groups, and teacher study tours
•organized toothbrush, backpack, uniform and hygiene drives
•fundraised and purchased books, teacher resources and school supplies
•hand delivered donations (involving complicated logistics and airport check-ins!)
•actively participated on the CFC Ed Committee by supporting training teams, preparing training materials, participating in volunteer service trips, and organizing fundraising events.
This list is not even close to exhaustive, but it hints at the scale of the impact teachers have had--and continue to have--on CFC's remarkable progress. I want to document that scale!
Here is how I hope you will participate:
1. Join the "Orange Volunteer Teacher Roll Call" by making a small donation on my page.
2. Share this Roll Call page with the teachers with whom you've collaborated in your work with CFC and invite them to join the Roll Call!
3. I will commit $13.00, and up to $1,300.00, for each teacher who joins the roll call. To contribute to the #RacetoBetterEducation goal of virtually traveling the 9,092 miles from Austin, Texas to Siem Reap, I will also commit to 13 minutes of exercise for each teacher who joins the Roll Call.
When I think of this virtual race, I think of CFC’s Teacher Volunteers as a powerful relay team spanning years and continents, each taking the baton, carrying it forward and passing it on. You need look no further than the vitality and leadership of CFC's mentor teacher team, teachers, their classrooms, and their students to know that your impact has been meaningful and, most importantly, remains sustainable. It is truly impossible to imagine where CFC would be without the contributions of teacher volunteers.

My Cause
The Mission: Caring for Cambodia (CFC) is educating a generation of Cambodian children today, to make a difference for Cambodia’s tomorrow. Our schools are safe, modern and technologically equipped. We train teachers, provide tools, and remove barriers to learning. We build Cambodian leadership to guide and sustain these schools, so that generations of CFC graduates can reach their highest potential and make valuable contributions to their community.
About the Organization:
Caring for Cambodia (CFC) strives to make it possible for every Cambodian child to attend school from preschool to 12th grade and to graduate with the skills required for higher education or for obtaining meaningful employment. This enables our students to support their families. to become productive citizens and to give back to their communities. CFC’s long term goals are:
To make higher education an attainable choice throughout Cambodia
To improve early childhood education across the country
To create a sustainable system that will be run and funded by Cambodia
Today, nearly 7,000 students annually attend a school supported by Caring for Cambodia for free. Not only do they have the clean, safe classrooms, textbooks, and school supplies they need but they also receive two meals a day, clean water and sanitation facilities. There are science labs and computer classrooms complete with laptops.
And the teachers? They are paid well; provided with an internationally developed curriculum and trained by experts from the US and Singapore.
Most importantly, CFC schools are recognized by the country’s Minister of Education as the model for K-12 education across Cambodia. Our curriculum is shared with schools nationwide and teachers from across the country come to Siem Reap for training.
