My Appeal
Nastasia Novie is a wonderful young lady. She is funny, she is loving, she is caring; she loves to draw on the computer, kick around the soccer ball, and build with Legos. She is also seriously challenged by Autism, a condition that affects every aspect of her life. She struggles to communicate even basic thoughts, she can be debilitated at times by extreme sensitivity to her environment, and she relies on patterned behavior and “stims” to get through the day. Under the current state of scientific knowledge about her condition, she will have to manage these challenges through her entire life.

It is for this reason that her school, and the professionals working there, are so very important to her future – although this is true for every child, most children do not face the extreme challenges posed by Autism. In order to learn, Nastasia needs the intensive environment of a specialized Autism school, additional educational services at home, and follow-up from her family – Nastasia needs to be “taught,” in one form or another, essentially during her every waking hour. Our family works with Nastasia’s teachers and therapists every day – both her school team and her home team - to coordinate and constantly adjust our strategies in helping Nastasia progress and learn. It is no exaggeration to say that Nastasia’s future depends on the quality of the educational professionals in her life.

Nastasia’s teachers and therapists at the Genesis School work every day to rise to this challenge. These dedicated individuals have chosen the difficult, but rewarding career specializing in helping children with the most difficult impediments to learning. Moreover, they have chosen to work in the difficult environment of a nonprofit private setting, struggling every day to keep the doors open and to secure the means to give these children the resources their disability needs. Genesis and its parent, Eden II, are committed to supporting these individuals and their families, not only during their school years, but through their entire life.

The Eden II & Genesis Foundation will be hosting its 10th Annual Blazing Trails for Autism 4 Mile Run/Walk on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Help us raise funds to support children and adults living with autism! All proceeds will support the many services provided to the Autism community.
