Stroke Survivors Empowering Each Other
My Appeal
I'm writing to tell you about a virtual race/fitness challenge fundraiser that my company has put together. My coworker Randy had a stroke in February of 2014. He was able to get through his recovery with help from an organization called Stroke Survivors Empowering Each Other (SSEEO). He is now fortunate to be president of SSEEO's board of directors as of July 1 this year, and Tri-Merit is excited to support SSEEO through this fundraising effort. Please support me while I participate.

Thank you,

Charlie Richardson

My Cause
The Mission: Our Mission is to provide advocacy, support, education and resources to stroke survivors and their families.
About the Organization: SSEEO is the first non-profit patient-supported stroke advocacy group in the nation. Founded in 2004 by stroke survivors, SSEEO strives to improve the quality of life for stroke survivors and their families. Originally sponsored by the American Heart/American Stroke Association, SSEEO became an independent, 501(c)(3) in 2010. The organization is run by those whose life has been affected by stroke.

SSEEO'S ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCIES ARE:

Build the SSEEO network of stroke survivors and other stakeholders by providing coordinated support, outreach and education.

Provide an active presence on policy issues related to stroke in Illinois by reaching out to EMS, local stroke support groups and healthcare professionals.

Create accessible resources for survivors and their caregivers through a dedicated website, discharge materials, toll-free teleconferences and e-newsletters.

Evaluate the need for other programs and services for caregivers, persons with disabilities and look into new avenues to connect with the patients after discharge.

Develop stroke survivors and caregivers for volunteer leadership roles through training, workshops and survivor-led mentoring.
