The Long Race 4 Tate never ends. Though it's been a while since we talked about it a lot (re: obsessively). It's been 8 years since Tate's diagnosis of Neutropenia. One of the most important things to Tate in his journey is the National Neutropenia Network's family conference. He calls it "The Neutropenia Hotel" and there is nowhere in the world he is a better version of himself than when he is with others who are "like him."
It's been a long time since we have done a major fundraising push. Long time as in years. Long time as in the births of Tate's two younger sisters. That's pretty much how long since I've run a race. Well, I'm back at it. Pounding the pavement at a snail's pace, but I started running again. When I'm out there, I remember that I started running because of Neutropenia.
This is a fundraiser for the National Neutropenia Network. The NNN is not separate from our desire to raise money for research. When we raise money for Ella Jewell, half of what we raise goes to the NNN. But this fundraiser is 100% for the NNN because it's what we need right now in 2019. We need an assurance that the Family Conference next summer will be everything it should be. A place for neutropenics to gather and learn - at an affordable price. With funds to bring several doctors to the event. With funds to provide scholarships to the people who can't afford to attend on their own - the ones who probably need the conference the most.
During this conference we provide important education about how to live and thrive with this condition. It's where we learn about progress regarding research.
Tate needs this conference because knowing he has friends with Neutropenia is a very important part of HOW he thrives with Neutropenia.

The Mission: The mission of the National Neutropenia Network is to promote awareness, education, and research, and to provide a support system for patients with severe chronic neutropenia (SCN) and their families through a national resource network.
About the Organization: Neutropenia is a rare blood condition that causes a reduced number or complete lack of neutrophils. The diagnosis of this condition is often a trying journey marked by baffling infections, emergency room visits, and the desperate search for a physician who understands. We ease isolation through programs that bring patients together for mutual support. Essentially, the NNN exists to help individuals and families impacted by neutropenia to live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible.
