NY Cares

Our Story

ew York Cares is the city's leading volunteer organization. Everyday throughout the year, volunteers engage in our impactful programming that addresses urban poverty, with two overarching goals: (1) to meet immediate needs such as providing meals to the hungry, and (2) to offer longer-term education services and other support to help individuals break the cycle of poverty. In FY13, New York Cares will engage 56,000 volunteers on projects that will help 400,000 at-risk New Yorkers. Our program areas are: Youth Education; Youth Nutrition and Fitness; Youth Arts and Culture; Youth Service; Adult Education and Career Preparation; Services for Children and Adults with Special Needs; Support for Senior Citizens; Health and Wellness; Hunger; Community Revitalization; and Animal Care. Although our year-round programmingaccounts for 81% of our volunteer projects, New York Cares also runs four large-scale single-day events, which last year revitalized more than 100 New York City’s schools, and over 90 parks and other public spaces; provided 35,000 disadvantaged children, teens, and families with gifts during the holidays; and provided 77,000 children and adults with gently used coats during the cold winter months.

New York Cares' mission is to meet pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.
