ABOUT EJMOUR EJ ADWōJ EDDO. OUR HEALTH OUR RESPONSIBILITY. CAMPAIGN

Lutok Kobban Alele is a festival celebrated every year by Marshallese during the last week of September. It is an opportunity to honor and preserve the rich culture and history of the Marshall Islands. Manit (Culture) Day is observed on the Friday of that week.

This year Nito's Wings is launching a special fitness and wellness campaign that will take participants on a virtual journey to the Marshall Islands. Registrants can sign up as individuals or as part of a team. There are three participation pathways available to each participant: fitness (miles), wellness (activity), and fundraising. Each pathway has preestablished milestones where participants will receive virtual "postcards" where they learn something unique and beautiful about the Marshall Islands.

We are beyond thankful for the support and permissions we received in creating relevant content and outreach for this campaign from the following: Nito’s Butterfly Foundation (our sister organization in the Marshall Islands); Miss Marshall Islands; the Republic of the Marshall Islands Ministry of Cultural and Internal Affairs; the Office of Commerce, Investment and Tourism; the Alele Museum; the Marshall Islands Canoe Paddling Federation; and artist John Alefaio.

Fitness Pathway

The number one question our organization receives is, “where are the Marshall Islands?” In the fitness pathway, as you earn miles you can see your progress on a map between California and the Marshall Islands. We have set the individual goal at 30 miles. Participants will receive a post card every 10 miles until they “arrive” in the Marshall Islands. They will be given the ability to set their own goal, however the postcards will “arrive” at the designated interval. Our overall goal is to collectively earn 4693 miles, which is the equivalent in miles of the distance between Nito’s Wings home office in California and Majuro. There will be awards for the most individual miles and the most team miles.

Wellness (Activity) Pathway

We are especially excited about this pathway. Our team has worked diligently to come up with a list of activities that not only help improve the mental and physical wellness of participants, but are also family/kid friendly, while providing examples of culturally cognizant activities within Marshallese communities. This pathway will be measured in footprints. We have set an individual goal of 30 footprints and a collective goal of 4693 footprints. Participants will receive a postcard every 10 footprints until they reach 30. Again, participants will be given the ability to set their own goal, however the postcards will “arrive” at the designated interval. There will be an award for the most individual footprints and the most team footprints.

Fundraising Pathway

One of our goals as an organization is to inspire philanthropy. We understand how good it feels to support a cause. Nonprofits like Nito’s Wings depend on hearts that are passionate about the work we do. If a participant also chooses to engage in this pathway we set an individual goal of $200 and a goal of $50,000 for this campaign. Just like in the other pathways, participants can set their own goal, however postcards will arrive at the milestones of $100 fundraised and $200 fundraised.

Inclusive Registration

One of the most beautiful elements of Marshallee Manit, is the way the families and community takes care of eachother. In the spirit of Manit, our goal is to be as inclusive as possible with this campaign. We not only have at cost registration fees (with and without a shirt), but we also have an opportunity for participants to select to spread wellness. By selecting the pay-it-forward registration option participants pay for their own, as well as someone else’s $35 registration fee. The more participants that pay-it-forward, the more opportunities we will have to be able to distribute free registrations.

  • Manit $2 (at cost) Manit means Culture and Tradition.
  • Jouij $20 (at cost. Includes shirt plus shipping and handling) Jouij means Kindness
  • Ejmour $35 (General Registration Fee) Ejmour means Health
  • Ibben Dron $70 (Pay-it-forward) means Together

The free registration slots will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Message us at info@nitoswings.org to inquire about a free registration code. Any free registration fees not distibuted by the end of the campaign will go into Nito’s Wings general fund.

Campaign Shirts

Participants that select registration with a shirt will receive an athletic shirt as part of their participation in this event.

  • Shirt Material. The material is combed ringspun cotton and polyester lightweight jersey. In keeping with the environmental consciousnes imperative to a sustainable future for the Marshall Islands, we selected a brand that uses recycled polyester. The brand is in the process of transitioning to 100 percent recycled polyester, however some mixed content will occur.
  • Design Description The front will have the name of the campaign, as well as a rendering of artwork by John Alefaio. His artwork is an interpretation of the Marshallese flag with traditional tattoo art embedded in the flag. The back will have Nito’s Nito’s Wings logo. The actual color of gray may slightly vary based on style chosen.
  • Sizing. Participants can choose from three different shirt styles. Unisex, Ladies’ and Youth. Please consider that we have been informed that this shirt can run slightly small when making your selection. Shirts cannot be returned for a different size.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Charity Footprints?

Charity Footprints is a social enterprise that connects fitness and charitable giving. We empower people just like you, to get fit & give back.

Our Virtual Races allow non-profits to challenge their patrons to run, walk or ride and raise funds just as they would in a fundraising walkathon. The best part - charities save over 45% in event and logistical costs. So, the dollars that you pay to register or fundraise, go farther.

What is the campaign registration fee?

Campaign registration fee is the amount that you'll need to pay to enroll in this virtual race. This fee (less transaction charges) will go to the non-profit running this campaign as a donation.

The registration fee along with the funds raised through your individual fundraising page will enable the non-profit to fund various programs and pursue their organization's mission.

How can I create my fundraising page?

Well, you wouldn't have to create a separate fundraising page. Once you register for this campaign, we'll give you the link to your fundraising page.

How will I track my distance?

You can track your workouts by setting up your devices (Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch, Health Connect By Android, Misfit, Strava), or download the Charity Footprints' iOS or Android app and track your workouts toward this campaign. ?>

If you workout indoors (treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike etc.), you can upload your workouts here.

How do I join a team on this campaign?

While registering for the campaign, select the team you'd like to join or create a new team and invite others to #GetFitGiveBack with you. If you want to join a team (or create your team) after registration, login to the campaign site and you would find a link to edit "My Team" in the menu under your profile in the header.

I am an international donor (non-US), what are my donation charges and tax-deductibility?

All donations are made in US dollars, so the donations may be levied an exchange rate fee via your bank. Donors will want to connect with their bank to determine exactly what that fee may be. Additionally, international donors will need to reach out to a tax professional to discuss if and how tax deductibility will apply to their donation.

Who can sponsor my fundraising efforts?

The short answer is - everyone. The fundraising research shows that the number one reason for people not donating is that they weren't asked to.

That said, there are things you can do to attract people to sponsor you. Adding a picture to your fundraising page, telling potential donors why this cause is so personal to you, sharing your fundraising page on social media, email, and chat groups.

Last, if your employer has a gift matching program, check with the human resources department to support your favorite cause as well.

Who can I contact if I need help?

You can contact us any time if you need help. We love hearing from our users so please don't hesitate to write to us about issues, suggestions, or to just say hi. You can also contact the non-profit administrator directly if you would like.

How do I change or switch my team?

If you want to join a team (or create your team) after registration, login to the campaign site and you would find a link to edit "My Team" in the menu under your profile in the header.
