South Dakota Parent Connection (SDPC) is a private nonprofit organization formed by parents of children and youth with disabilities and allied professionals. Since 1985, SDPC has served as the State of South Dakota’s Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center and Family to Family (F2F) Health Information Center. SDPC also serves at the Navigator Program, an alternative to dispute resolution provided in cooperation with the State Dept. of Special Education.
SDPC believes that a child’s needs are most appropriately met by parents who are informed and active in the development of a continuum of services for their child. Programs to train and support parents in meeting their responsibilities are vital. The child is best served when parents and professionals are willing to work together. Close communication, cooperation, and sincere caring among informed people create an atmosphere of effective progress.
SDPC is governed by a Board of Directors which is comprised of at least 50% parents of individuals with disabilities. The majority of the staff of SDPC are parents of individuals with disabilities or support a family member with a disability.
