ABOUT WINGS RACE FOR HEALING 2020 CAMPAIGN
You're invited to participate in the month-long Race for Healing!
One in four women, one in six men, or one in five people experienced sexual abuse as children. Most have never told a soul because our culture hasn’t made it easy. Childhood sexual abuse (CSA), and specifically the ways this trauma impacts adults, has been ignored, silenced and denied for an eternity.

Healing is possible, yet it takes time and support. The average CSA survivor spends 34 years of their adult lives dealing with this issue – often without access to the right support and resources – and completely alone.

Isn’t it about time we address this public health issue?
When we each have the courage to explore this difficult issue and prioritize survivors’ healing, there is tremendous strength and growth to be had for all of us. The more time we give to this issue, the more time CSA survivors can regain in building healthy lives, families, workplaces and communities.

That’s why this year’s Race for Healing is all about time.
We invite you to participate in our month-long Race for Healing by using your greatest asset – your time - to create a world where all CSA survivors can speak, heal and thrive. September is Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivor Awareness Month (CSA-SAM), so now is the perfect time to stand with CSA survivors. Whether you have 10 minutes or 10 hours – YOU can make a difference.

What: A virtual event series focused on holistic healing
When: September 1st - 30th throughout CSA-SAM
Where: Participate in live virtual events or on your own
Cost: $30 with a t-shirt | $20 without a t-shirt
Scholarships are available (t-shirt included) for survivors and loved ones, generously sponsored by Lisa Levin Appel in honor of Marilyn Van Derbur Atler. Apply here.

Once you register, you’ll gain access to live WINGS-led activities throughout the month plus extra content you can access any time. While our activities are created with survivors and their loved ones in mind, each activity is beneficial to everyone’s health and well-being. At WINGS, we believe healing happens in community, and YOU are a vital part of that community. CSA Survivors need people like you to stand by their side.

ALL your minutes count - whether the content comes from WINGS or you choose to engage in learning and healing activities on your own. Holistic healing focuses on the Mind/Body/Spirit Connection, so you have lots of options. Enjoy your favorite self-care activity one day and step out of your comfort zone to try something new the next.

Examples of WINGS-led activities throughout the month:
• Tips to establish a rest, self-care, and resilience practice
• Opportunities to listen to and learn from CSA survivors
• How to respond if someone discloses their history of CSA to you
• Information on goal setting and nutrition
• Movement, mindfulness, and more

Full list of activities is available on our website.

Ideas for activities you can do on your own:
• Mind: Read a book about CSA, have a conversation with a friend, watch a documentary
• Body: Running, yoga, paddle boarding, hiking, dancing
• Spirit: Mindfulness, meditation, music, art

Together, we hope to reach 150,000 healing minutes and raise $15,000 for the 1 in 5 adults who are CSA survivors. We encourage you to set a minute goal for the month and participate in activities that are meaningful to you at your own pace. After all, healing is a marathon, not a sprint.

How Your Participation Helps
Childhood sexual abuse remains one of the least discussed and most pressing public health issues in every community – for children and adults. For too long, this issue has been silenced, ignored and denied, leaving those most impacted without the support they need to heal and thrive. WINGS is proud to stand with the 1 in 5 adults who experienced sexual abuse in childhood. Your choice to stand with WINGS and CSA survivors makes such a difference. The more time we all engage in learning about and healing from this issue, the healthier our world will be.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Charity Footprints?

Charity Footprints is a social enterprise that connects fitness and charitable giving. We empower people just like you, to get fit & give back.

Our Virtual Races allow non-profits to challenge their patrons to run, walk or ride and raise funds just as they would in a fundraising walkathon. The best part - charities save over 45% in event and logistical costs. So, the dollars that you pay to register or fundraise, go farther.

What is the campaign registration fee?

Campaign registration fee is the amount that you'll need to pay to enroll in this virtual race. This fee (less transaction charges) will go to the non-profit running this campaign as a donation.

The registration fee along with the funds raised through your individual fundraising page will enable the non-profit to fund various programs and pursue their organization's mission.

How can I create my fundraising page?

Well, you wouldn't have to create a separate fundraising page. Once you register for this campaign, we'll give you the link to your fundraising page.

How will I track my distance?

You can track your workouts by setting up your devices (Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch, Google Fit, Misfit, Strava), or download the Charity Footprints' iOS or Android app and track your workouts toward this campaign.

If you workout indoors (treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike etc.), you can upload your workouts here.

How do I join a team on this campaign?

While registering for the campaign, select the team you'd like to join or create a new team and invite others to #GetFitGiveBack with you. If you want to join a team (or create your team) after registration, login to the campaign site and you would find a link to edit "My Team" in the menu under your profile in the header.

I am an international donor (non-US), what are my donation charges and tax-deductibility?

All donations are made in US dollars, so the donations may be levied an exchange rate fee via your bank. Donors will want to connect with their bank to determine exactly what that fee may be. Additionally, international donors will need to reach out to a tax professional to discuss if and how tax deductibility will apply to their donation.

Who can sponsor my fundraising efforts?

The short answer is - everyone. The fundraising research shows that the number one reason for people not donating is that they weren't asked to.

That said, there are things you can do to attract people to sponsor you. Adding a picture to your fundraising page, telling potential donors why this cause is so personal to you, sharing your fundraising page on social media, email, and chat groups.

Last, if your employer has a gift matching program, check with the human resources department to support your favorite cause as well.

Who can I contact if I need help?

You can contact us any time if you need help. We love hearing from our users so please don't hesitate to write to us about issues, suggestions, or to just say hi. You can also contact the non-profit administrator directly if you would like.

How do I change or switch my team?

If you want to join a team (or create your team) after registration, login to the campaign site and you would find a link to edit "My Team" in the menu under your profile in the header.
