Bessie's Hope
My Appeal
After 26 years, Bessie's Hope is still the only organization in the country shining a light on nursing home elders, 60% of whom receive NO personal visitors. It is imperative that Bessie's Hope perseveres through COVID and is there when the doors open again for the elders. At the beginning of the shutdown, we launched our Staying Connected Initiative. We have delivered thousands of letters, cards, DVDs, CDs, art and crafts. We use Zoom to arrange volunteer visits, church services, and interactive entertainment and music therapy sessions. Through volunteer programs for all ages, preschool through adult, we provide education and training, so all volunteers can have meaningful, comfortable interaction and relationships with elders of all cognitive levels, including advanced Alzheimer's Disease. Compassion, empathy and respect are ignited in the hearts and minds of the youth involved. For the at-risk youth, our work is as life-transforming as it is for the elders. Both populations give to each other the feeling of being needed and valued.
Please share what Bessie's Hope does with your friends and family and participate in this fundraising event to help Bessie's Hope continue.

My Cause
The Mission:
Bessie’s Hope enhances the quality of life for nursing home and assisted living elders by bringing generations together in mutually rewarding relationships that honor the human spirit and create life-enriching volunteer opportunities for youth, families, individuals, community organizations and businesses.
About the Organization:
Bessie’s Hope is a legacy to our co-founder’s grandmother, Bessie “Granny” Stephens. The co-founders are pioneers in intergenerational work. After 26 years, Bessie’s Hope is still the only organization in the nation that brings youth groups, preschool through high school, including residential treatment centers for troubled teens; adult groups; individuals; and families into elder care facilities through structured volunteer programs. Key to the success are the education, training, communication tools and resources necessary to ensure meaningful, comfortable interactions and relationships with elders of all cognitive functioning levels, including advanced Alzheimer's Disease.
