My Appeal
The approximate cost to send one child to camp for one life-changing week is $1,000. The average cost for a child to attend one day of camp is $200.00. When COVID-19 emerged, Camp One Step quickly pivoted to virtual programming to serve our community.
During Summer Camp Virtual, we had 185 campers participate for two, one week sessions! The week before camp, each camper receives a care package with all the supplies needed to do the counselor led activities via zoom. Campers reported loving the opportunity to engage with each other and their counselors; especially during these uncertain times. It costs approximately $375 to provide virtual camp for one week for a child. We encourage each participant to raise $250 - the approximate amount to support five days of virtual camp.

The Mission:
Camp One Step by Children's Oncology Services believes that cancer should not prevent a child from enjoying the simple joys of childhood. When kids are diagnosed with cancer, childhood can swept away by appointments, treatments, and hospital visits for the child diagnosed and for their brothers and sisters. Camp One Step gives childhood back by providing free programs for children diagnosed with cancer and their families so they can enjoy fishing, arts and crafts, and games that promote inclusion.
We are one of the very few organizations in the country who provide programming exclusively for children who have a sibling with cancer. During Sibling Camp, children who have a brother or sister with cancer can have fun, laugh, and and spend time with peers who understand their unique journey.
About the Organization:
Camp One Step by Children's Oncology Services is a leader in providing empowering, supportive, educational and fun experiences for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. We are the only local organization to offer 11 different programs throughout the year serving children and families who live in Illinois, Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. Thanks to our 400 annual volunteers, including medical professionals, children who are in different stages of treatment have the ability to attend our One Step Programs. Over the last 45 years our organization has served more than 15,000 campers.
We exist to heal scars that no one can see such as fear, isolation, depression, lack of support and no longer fitting in. Through community, support and shared experiences with peers, we deliver happy, pain free medicine called “camp."
