My Appeal
Red pandas play a critical role in conserving the Eastern Himalayan broadleaf forest—one of our planet's biodiversity hotspots that supports over 500 million people! They are a flagship species that acts as an ambassador for protecting this important ecoregion.
They are also an indicator and umbrella species: their conservation has landscape-level impacts. Like an umbrella, red panda conservation protects the entire ecoregion, including the forests and wildlife.
Unfortunately, red pandas are in a race for survival. Our planet has lost half of its wild red pandas in just 20 years, and as few as 2,500 may remain in the wild. In Nepal, red pandas are threatened by habitat loss and illegal poaching.
By participating in Run for Red Pandas, you are directly supporting community-based red panda conservation programs in Nepal and helping us save this unique, important, endangered species from extinction. The virtual marathon begins on Earth Day (April 22nd) and ends on International Day for Biodiversity (May 22nd).

My Cause
The Mission: Red Panda Network is committed to the conservation of wild red pandas and their habitat through the education and empowerment of local communities.
About the Organization: Red Panda Network is the world leader in efforts to save red pandas and their habitat. We use an integrated, landscape-level approach to conservation that is built on the support and participation of local communities. Our conservation programs extend to over one million acres of forest and 50% of Nepal’s red panda range!
