ABOUT HSTT'S TRAILS FOR TAILS VIRTUAL RACE CAMPAIGN
We know many of you are stuck at home and feeling the stress of events surrounding the Coronavirus. Exercise can help boost our mental state as well as our physical health, so - in the spirit of social distancing, track your steps along with your furry friend and get moving without the crowd with HSTT's First Virtual Run!
How do we participate from afar?
The run is available for registration now through July 3rd, 2020 with registration fees ranging from $19-$49 to meet your personal goals and 4 distances to choose from. HSTT has set a Fitness Goal of 10,000 miles and a Fundraising Goal of $20,000.
Participate however you are comfortable, and record your choice as steps to add up to your preferred distance. You can walk your dog, run, sprint, yoga, dance in your kitchen - or a mixture of them all! In this race, YOU decide how you will achieve your fitness goals while raising money to support our 4-legged friends! Though this run is mainly for paws - not applause, we still want to highlight your achievement. Each finisher will receive a keepsake medal for the FIRST HSTT Trails for Tails Virtual Run to show off your stamina and support.
Of course, this is also an excellent opportunity for you to help HSTT fundraise. Through Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, you can help raise funds needed to continue to offer life-saving, essential services throughout COVID-19 and beyond. To say THANK YOU, participants that raise $250.00 or more throughout their campaign will receive an HSTT embroidered blanket. These fantastic blankets have never been offered before and are sure to be a staple in your active, outdoor lifestyle.
How do I register?
We have designed our Registration Fees based on your level of participation, similar to a live race. You can sign-up for a 5K, 10k, Half or Full Marathon. Your registration fee is used to help support our mission of saving and improving the lives of pets through adoption, community spay/neuter, Pet Pantry and humane education programs. After that, you have 8 weeks to complete your distance and fundraising goals, encouraging and challenging your friends and family to join you in getting active and raising lifesaving funds. HSTT will be there to help and encourage you every STEP of the way!
How do I count my steps?
You can use your phone, pedometer or smartwatch to count your steps. Let's be honest; not every athletic activity we do during isolation will easily translate into steps, and that's OK. Here's a cheat sheet for your reference below. Just update your steps based on the activity you do throughout the challenge.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
HUMANE SOCIETY OF TRUCKEE TAHOE INC.
The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pets through adoption, community spay/neuter and humane education programs.
The economic impact of COVID-19 will sadly result in an uptick in animal relinquishments from within our community due to financial hardship and changes in housing caused by that hardship. In our animal-loving area, the decision to rehome a pet is heartbreaking and sad. HSTT is here to help pet owners through that selfless process by providing medical care, healthy food and a safe, warm place to live for every pet that comes our way. The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) needs your financial support to prepare to help our community caringly rehome their pets when necessary. Additionally, your contributions will help community members care for their pets during these trying times with help from our free Pet Pantry food distribution program and, once we return to normal operations, through our Wellness Clinics providing free vaccinations and microchips to animal owners in need. Our goal is to provide all the support we can in order to keep pets in their homes with the people who love them, however, we need to be prepared to rehome an increased number of pets over the coming months.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Charity Footprints?
Charity Footprints is a social enterprise that connects fitness and charitable giving. We empower people just like you, to get fit & give back.
Our Virtual Races allow non-profits to challenge their patrons to run, walk or ride and raise funds just as they would in a fundraising walkathon. The best part - charities save over 45% in event and logistical costs. So, the dollars that you pay to register or fundraise, go farther.
What is the campaign registration fee?
Campaign registration fee is the amount that you'll need to pay to enroll in this virtual race. This fee (less transaction charges) will go to the non-profit running this campaign as a donation.
The registration fee along with the funds raised through your individual fundraising page will enable the non-profit to fund various programs and pursue their organization's mission.
How can I create my fundraising page?
Well, you wouldn't have to create a separate fundraising page. Once you register for this campaign, we'll give you the link to your fundraising page.
If you workout indoors (treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike etc.), you can upload your workouts here.
I am an international donor (non-US), what are my donation charges and tax-deductibility?
All donations are made in US dollars, so the donations may be levied an exchange rate fee via your bank. Donors will want to connect with their bank to determine exactly what that fee may be. Additionally, international donors will need to reach out to a tax professional to discuss if and how tax deductibility will apply to their donation.
Who can sponsor my fundraising efforts?
The short answer is - everyone. The fundraising research shows that the number one reason for people not donating is that they weren't asked to.
That said, there are things you can do to attract people to sponsor you. Adding a picture to your fundraising page, telling potential donors why this cause is so personal to you, sharing your fundraising page on social media, email, and chat groups.
Last, if your employer has a gift matching program, check with the human resources department to support your favorite cause as well.
Who can I contact if I need help?
You can contact us any time if you need help. We love hearing from our users so please don't hesitate to write to us about issues, suggestions, or to just say hi. You can also contact the non-profit administrator directly if you would like.
