NEPAL497 SUCCESS

Successful Nepal Earthquake Relief Work

Participants blow past the distance & fundraising goal

July 28, 2015

Sewa International volunteers walked over 750 miles to support Nepal Earthquake Relief Efforts.
Charity Footprints recently wrapped up another global decentralized walkathon - this time for a cause very close to our heart, as well as to its charity partner for the event, Sewa International, USA - supporting Nepal Earthquake relief efforts.

The event, dubbed Nepal497 aimed to collectively walk 497 miles (the length of the nation along its Himalayan Axis) and raise money for the relief and reconstruction efforts using the Charity Footprints' web based event management tool as well as mobile tracking application.

Charity Footprints waived off all registration commissions to maximize participation and to increase awareness about the cause. Each registered participant had access to an individual fundraising page, where they could solicit tax-deductible donations from friends, family members, colleagues and others.

The campaign which started with a modest goal of $497 and a distance of 497 miles, garnered immense interest in the following weeks. The fundraising target was extended several times and the campaign ended on July 6th, 2015 with over 200 participants covering 750 miles, and raising $6,000 USD. The charge was led by the NJ/NY metro chapter, and saw participation from 5 countries and over 50 cities.

Sewa International is working with several local organizations in Nepal to provide first aid, distribute safe drinking water, food packets, and blankets. Volunteers from Sewa International in the U.S. travelled to Nepal to provide voluntary services.

Of the event's success, Sewa International President (NY Metro Area Chapter) said, "The philosophy of Charity Footprints enables us to promote our core values, and we are so excited with the success of the Nepal497 campaign. Our volunteers have continued using the Footprints mobile app to raise awareness for Nepal even after completing their registered miles."
