Love in Action Challenge

Shade is thrilled to launch the Jack Grubbs Memorial Love in Action Challenge, an annual movement-based fundraiser where participants walk, run, bike, or move in any way to support Shade’s mission in Tanzania. Love in Action started in 2022, and we’re excited to launch our 4th year of action and fundraising for Shade School! This year, we’re rallying together to raise $40,000 to purchase a much-needed school bus for Shade School. With a growing number of students, many of whom live far from campus, reliable and safe transportation is essential to ensure children can attend school consistently, access nutritious meals, and learn in a secure environment. For children with albinism, who often face serious safety risks due to widespread myths and discrimination, a school bus provides not just a ride, but protection, dignity, and opportunity.

This challenge is named in honor of Jack Grubbs, Shade’s founding Board Chair, whose legacy of servant leadership, generosity, and love helped shape Shade into the vibrant community it is today. Jack believed that love requires action, and this campaign reflects that same heart. As we grow to serve more children and families in Tanzania, we’re excited to invite supporters old and new to join us in this meaningful way. Let’s move together so children at Shade can move safely toward a brighter future.

Shade is a Christian organization empowering children, families, and communities affected by albinism and other vulnerabilities in Tanzania. Founded in 2014, Shade exists to create spaces of safety, dignity, and opportunity—where every child is seen, valued, and given the tools to thrive. Through our integrated programs in education, advocacy, and community outreach, we work to dismantle the stigma and systemic barriers faced by people with albinism and others in marginalized communities. Our flagship initiative is Shade School, a growing pre- and primary school that provides inclusive, high-quality education to children with and without albinism. We pair academic support with holistic services such as nutrition, health care, spiritual care, and family empowerment. Shade also leads advocacy efforts across Tanzania—raising awareness about albinism and educating communities. At our core, we believe that transformation happens through relationship and that every person has God-given value and purpose.

In partnering with Charity Footprints, we’re excited to bring an engaging fundraising experience with a wide variety of great options for movement and activity for our participants. This year, you’ll see options to connect your fitness tracker directly, as well as a list of actions you can take to earn miles in addition to your steps and workouts. These include sharing about Shade and Love in Action via social media, building and growing your team, and volunteering for Shade.

Join Love in Action Challenge hosted by Shade and turn your movement into meaningful impact. From August 1–31, you’re invited to walk, run, bike, stretch—however you move—and help us raise $40,000 to purchase a new school bus for Shade School in Tanzania. Whether it’s a daily jog or a weekend hike, every mile logged and dollar raised will help children with albinism and other vulnerabilities get to school safely and receive the education, nutrition, and care they deserve. Transportation is essential at Shade—not only for access to school, but also for protection, dignity, and opportunity.
